3 Tips to Embracing Your Christianity

Where is God?  Sometimes it feels like modern society has hidden God away, for fear of being politically incorrect.  But God is still here.  Waiting patiently to be discovered and acknowledged.  He never leaves us.

Staying in touch with your Christianity can feel like a challenge sometimes.  It’s more than the act of going to church services on Sundays, or saying a quick prayer at the kitchen table before you eat.  It’s embracing all the wonders of life, making decisions that won’t leave you with regret, and doing the right thing, even when no-one will praise you for it.

  1. Take a Walk with God: A simple walk by yourself gives you time out from the stress of daily life and also gives you a chance to reconnect with God.   Whether you only have a busy street or quiet country road to take a stroll on, it’s important to take some time to reflect on your faith, to put aside your regular life and just focus on the plan God has for you.  God is everywhere, so no matter where you go, or what you do, you’ll find He is there; if only you are willing to see Him.

  1. Volunteer: Food banks, soup kitchens, local schools, senior centers and youth programs always need volunteers.  Becoming a volunteer for those in need, is more than just helping your community, it’s doing something good for no benefit to yourself.   Don’t judge the people you see, just help.  Giving of yourself to help out those in need, is a wonderful reminder that we are all children of God, regardless of our station in life.

  1. Hold the Door: Good deeds can be big or small.  The little acts of kindness we show to others keep us humble.  Hold the door open for someone else.  Let the person with only two items go ahead of you at the check out line.  Bite your tongue when someone says something you find offensive.  Offer a warm smile and a kind word to the exasperated mother with the screaming toddler.  Be kind to someone, just because it’s the right thing to do and not because you’re expecting something in return.

Being a true Christian doesn’t mean you need to spend your waking hours witnessing to others and looking for sinners to save.  In fact, we are all sinners.  We all stumble, we all fall, we all need to pick ourselves back up and start down the path again.  Embracing your Christianity is about striving to be the person you want to be, and ultimately, the person God wants you to be.  Be thankful, be gracious, be giving, and most of all be true; to yourself and to God.
