The Crusades Were Good:The Crusades Were Good
The Crusades were good as they promoted Christianity throughout the world. There are some that thing that the ruthless murders and tortures done in the name of Christ during the crusades were counterproductive to the teachings of Jesus Christ, but there are those who feel that the Crusades were a success because they actually converted a great deal of people across the globe to the Christian Religion.
The crusades took place a thousand years ago. The purpose was to bring one religious belief to the world, which was Christianity. The Crusades were good if you were a Christian or if you were looking for a new religion and wanted to convert. The crusades were a success in the amount of people that it converted. However, because most people want to live even more than they want to practice a religious belief, they are easily converted under the threat of death. This is how the crusades were accomplished, those who deviated from what was considered acceptable in Christianity were murdered.
Islam was one of the religions that the crusades fought about. They were successful in converting many away from Islam as well as converting a great deal of the world. There are cities in the Middle East today that were the subject of fierce battles during the crusades. During this period of time, any religion that deviated from Christianity was considered heresy and those who did not convert were killed, often being burned at the stake.
Today, there is a new takeover of religious beliefs across the globe. While most Christians have calmed down over the past thousand years and have a live and let live attitude, at least most of them, a new threat has come from the east in the name of Islam. This is the fastest growing religion in the world and many see similarities between the Crusades and the terrorist attacks on infidels in the west by Islamic extremists as being very similar. Those who are atheists are quick to point out the error of the crusades in that they murdered many people during this period of time in the name of God, but ignore the threat from Islam. Although Muslims are not going door to door torturing people in the west and getting them to convert under the penalty of death, they can use weapons like terror attacks and murders of individuals who are offensive to Islam to actually have their own type of crusades right in the midst of the modern world.
Those who do not think that the crusades were a good idea and those who think that they were a great way to spread the word of Christ have to see that what is taking place across the globe by some radicals in Islam is very similar to what took place during the beginning of the crusades. While the idea of being forced to convert to Islam or die sounds ludicrous to many people, that threat may become very real if total war is declared on the west by radical Islam. Especially since a great deal of those who practice this religion are in high populations in western countries.

Monty Python’s Life Of Brian – The Immaculate Edition [Blu-ray] $9.84 “Blessed are the cheesemakers,” a wise man once said. Or maybe not. But the point is Monty Python’s Life of Brian is a religious satire that does not target specific religions or religious leaders (like, say, Jesus of Nazareth). Instead, it pokes fun at the mindless and fanatical among their followers–it’s an attack on religious zealotry and hypocrisy–things that that fellow from Nazareth didn’t… |

Marxism and Christianity $36.37 This volume explores the common ground between Marxism and Christianity. It argues that Marxism shares in good measure both the content and functions of Christianity and does so because it inherits it from Christianity. It details the religious attitudes and modes of belief that appear in Marxism as it developed historically from the philosophies of Hegel and Feuerbach, and as it has been carried on by its latter-day interpreters from Rosa Luxemberg and Trotsky to Kautsky and Lukacs. It sets out to show that Marxism, no less than Christianity, is subject to the historical relativity that affects all ideologies. This new edition has been updated to take account of the collapse of Communism in the former Eastern bloc and whether Marxism, in particular, is still relevant to those who seek a changed social order today. |

Postmodern Christianity $33.43 In Postmodern Christianity, John Riggs proposes that postmodernism and Christianity have much to offer each other. Each should take the other seriously, he writes — affirming the other’s position but avoiding complete acceptance or rejection. On the one hand, he argues, we should take seriously the postmodern challenge to the traditional view of God as omnipotent controller — one who directs the world to its predetermined end according to "his" divine purpose. On the other hand, there is merit in challenging the postmodern view that no universal claims can be made irrespective of context and that no particular claims can be made about what is good or true. Riggs argues for a common ground between postmodernism and Christianity, focusing on how this applies to issues such as reproductive rights and the ordination of women, gay men, and lesbians. He suggests that Christianity avoid the extreme positions of either completely accommodating itself to or completely rejecting postmodern culture. |

Authentic Christianity $25 “>”There can be no more urgent question at this present time than just this: What is Christianity?” >Some define it as an elevated, optimistic philosophy of life. Many regard it as a set of morals to live by, or a good feeling about yourself, or doing good things. Still others dismiss it as something for the intellectually weak. >Within these pages, however, Martyn Lloyd-Jones challenges you to think through exactly what you believe Christianity to be and the role it has in your life. He believes that today’s understanding of Christianity, even as defined by many who consider themselves to be its followers, is in complete contrast to what is taught in the Bible. Christianity is not a list of things for you to do, but rather, your only true hope, for it tells what Jesus came to do for you. >That you may know Jesus as your Savior and know Him more fully is Lloyd-Jones’s desire as he shares in these messages from the book of Acts the basic truths of genuine Christianity. About this Series >The book of Acts is filled with some of the most powerful accounts in the New Testament. The birth of the church. The coming of the Holy Spirit. Bold preaching and dramatic missionary journeys. Saved souls and transformed lives. It not only provides insight into the growing apostolic church, but can encourage and challenge your heart today. >Martyn Lloyd-Jones preached on this dynamic Bible book during the peak of his ministry. Now those expository sermons are gathered together in a multi-volume collection. His language is simple and clear so that the truth of the Scriptures would be available to all who desire to understand. Recognized as one of this century’s most gifted preachers, he is known for his astute analysis of man’s condition and his persuasive proclamation of the Gospel as the only true solution.” |

The End of Christianity: Finding a Good God in an Evil World $22.99 “Theodicy attempts to resolve how a good God and evil world can coexist. The neo-atheist view in this debate has dominated recent bestseller lists through books like “The God Delusion “(Richard Dawkins), “God Is Not Great “(Christopher Hitchens), and “The End of Faith “(Samuel Harris). And their popularity illuminates a changing mental environment wherein people are asking harder questions about divine goodness. Surprisingly, these books please intelligent design champion William Dembski, because “They would be unnecessary if Christianity were not again a live issue.”Entering the conversation, Dembski’s provocative “The End of Christianity “embraces the challenge to formulate a theodicy that is both faithful to Christian orthodoxy and credible to the new mental environment. He writes to make peace with three claims: (1) God by wisdom created the world out of nothing. (2) God exercises particular providence in the world. (3) All evil in the world ultimately traces back to human sin. In the process, Dembski brings the reader to a fresh understanding of what “the end (result) of Christianity” really means: the radical realignment of our thinking so that we see God’s goodness in creation despite the distorting effects of sin in our hearts and evil in the world.Endorsements: “”The End of Christianity” towers over the others in profundity and quality . . . I have read very few books with its deep of insight, breadth of scholarly interaction, and significance. From now on, no one who is working on a Christian treatment of the problem of evil can afford to neglect this book.” >–J. P. Moreland, Distinguished Professor of Philosophy, Biola University and author of “The God Question”>A thought-provoking and well-worth reading book by a brilliant evangelical thinker on the perennial and puzzling problem of how to explain physical evil in the world before the Fall. I could not put it down. It has so much intellectually stimulating material in it.–Norman Geisler >”Believers have badly needed the kind of compelling case for biblical theodicy provided in Dr. Dembski’s new book-grounded, as it is, not in traditional philosophical arguments (often not merely obtuse but irrelevant in today’s scientific climate), but in intelligent design, of which Dr. Dembski is the world’s foremost academic proponent.”–John Warwick Montgomery >”William Dembski is a first-rate scholar who has focused his attention on the perennial challenge to Christianity: Why does God allow such evil and cruelty in the world? While staying well within the bounds of Christian orthodoxy, Dembski offers fresh insights that can truly be described as groundbreaking. Whether you end up embracing his solution or not, “The End of Christianity” is a book all Christians-and even non-Christians-need to wrestle with. We enthusiastically recommend it.”–Josh and Sean McDowell, co-authors of “Evidence for the Resurrection” and “More Than A Carpenter”" |

Combat Christianity $14.99 “This is the final book of the Christian’s Promised Land series. In this series we have progressed from the elimination of traditional baggage and misinformation (Why Bad Things Happen to Good People) through restoration and revitalization of the message most prominently delivered by Jesus and His followers (Where’s the Power At?). It is one thing to make the journey; it is entirely different to occupy the land. Here in Combat Christianity we delve into the advanced strategies and tactics of spiritual warfare as has never been done before. It is as if Sun Tzu met the Ephesians and the Corinthians and studied their ways and words. A great deal of emphasis is placed on motivation behind ministry and how that relates to the success of such ministry. It is also important to note that many tactics that Christian’s have poorly understood and therefore inadequately implemented are expounded upon in some detail. It is in understanding appropriate tactics that allows for the expansion of strategies to rescue the oppressed, deliver the captive and conquer the enemy in your life as well as in your neighbor’s life. If your heart has brought you to a place of joining the army of the Lord, then consider Combat Christianity your field-training manual. Welcome Aboard Mark D. Good Game: Christianity and the Culture of Sports $20.35 In recent years the United States has seen an influx of Christian athletes and coaches into big-time sports, as well as a heightened importance placed on sports in church programs and enormous platforms for intercollegiate sports at Christian schools and colleges. However, as Shirl Hoffman critiques, a Christian vision of sport remains merely superficialareplete with prayers before free throws and praises after touchdowns but offering little if any alternative vision from the secular sports culture. Far from being the kind of life-affirming, faith-affirming events that they could be, games played in Christian college gymnasiums, for example, too often end up as mockeries of the faith statements given prominence in their mission statements. Here, in this thoughtful, narrative-driven exploration, Hoffman retells numerous fascinating stories from the world of ancient and contemporary sports and draws on the history of the Christian tradition as he seeks to answer the question aWhat would it mean to think Christianly about sport?a |

The Good Life: Genuine Christianity for the Middle Class $21 “Intimate friendships, loving families, good food, and beautiful homes–middle-class Westerners enjoy so many gifts. Christians often feel guilty about their enjoyment of these gifts, but David McCarthy suggests that God provides these things for our enjoyment. In contrast to consumerism, which encourages shallow relationships, McCarthy explains how the love of God fosters a deep attachment to the world. He describes this in relation to marriage, family, friendship, hospitality, and work. A right ordering of our desires will lead Christians to an enjoyment of life that require less “stuff.” This book will be appreciated by all Christians trying to live well in an affluent culture.” |

The Other Side of Christianity $16.99 “”You are at liberty to seek your own salvation as you understand it, provided you do nothing to change the social order,” said Joseph Goebbels (Hitler’s Propaganda Minister) to a group of clergy. The Other Side Of Christianity challenges this notion and the State Religion that is so often believed and practiced by unsuspecting Christians. At the same time, the author claims Jesus challenged societal norms and practiced civil disobedience by healing people on the Sabbath and ministering to the outcasts and forgotten. In the context of the Roman Empire, Jesus also proclaimed and lived a Gospel (good news) of justice, universal love and economic redistribution that was contrary to Caesar’s Gospel (bad news) of inequality, imperialistic wars and greed. By using messianic nonviolence and revolutionary forgiveness, Jesus ushered in God’s Reign overturning and transforming the Roman Empire’s ideologies of retaliation, violence and dehumanization. Did Jesus command his disciples and followers to do the same? The Other Side Of Christianity explores this question (and many more) through fifty-two weekly scriptural readings and reflections based on faith, politics, history, peace, and spirituality. These innovative devotionals will challenge your faith, deepen your belief in God and broaden your journey with humankind. Fifty-Two Weekly Devotionals And Scriptural Readings From The Margins Of Christianity Including Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, Easter, Christmas, Independence Day, Indigenous Day/Thanksgiving Day, And Election Day” |

Can We Be Good Without God? on the Political Meaning of Christianity $8.95 “In this concise and provocative analysis of modern culture, Glenn Tinder challenged conventional wisdom by contending that Christianity required no political program but rather a prophetic stance judging all programs and institutions against the ideal of love of each individual. In doing so, he helped to make clear what a Christian meaning in politics might be and charted a course between the extremes of passive cynicism and revolutionary idealism. Since it was first published in The Atlantic Monthly in 1989, this classic essay has stimulated many Christians and non-Christians alike to rethink the relationship between Christian faith and politics in contemporary culture. Glenn Tinder is Professor Emeritus of Political Science at the University of Massachusetts, Boston. His books include The Political Meaning of Christianity and Political Thinking.” |
