Leading Congregational Change $15.95 “A Leadership Network Publication > With this much-needed handbook, the authors brilliantly combine their experience guiding dozens of churches through the change process with both the study of Christian disciplines and the sophisticated understanding of such important business thinkers as John Kotter on leading change and Peter Senge on learning organizations. In this eminently readable book the authors have distilled their insights and practices into simple but powerful concepts for leading congregations, whether long established or recently formed, through profound change. > Leaders using this guide will also be interested in the companion Leading Congregational Change Workbook, which offers assessment questions, planning worksheets, activities, and case examples for each stage of the process.” |

Transforming Congregational Culture $18 “Many recent books have attempted to address the “crisis” in the mainline church. Anthony Robinson here makes a significant — and in many ways unique — contribution to this discussion by bringing his personal insights as a pastor to bear on the issue of renewing congregational life. Writing from twenty-five years of experience in four congregations of differing size, location, and ethnic makeup, Robinson prescribes concrete changes in the practice of ministry that have been tried, tested, and lived out to great success. At the heart of his framework for church renewal is what he calls “cultural change.” According to Robinson, technical or programmatic change is not sufficient to address the needs of the day. He argues for changing the very culture of mainline congregations, which involves recognizing and fostering their particular gifts and genius rather than trying to remake them into something they are not. His fruitful strategies for renewal touch every aspect of congregational life, from personal spiritual formation to church leadership.” |

In Tune with God: The Art of Congregational Discernment $12.99 “This book helps congregations learn how to make decisions in healthy ways–focused on God’s purposes, and growing in love and truth. Sally Weaver Glick approaches congregational discernment as a process of hearing and entering God’s “song.” Discernment is what we do to distinguish between God’s music and our own static and noise. Good discernment, says Weaver Glick, lets God’s song “sing through us and shape us, so that we can join in harmoniously, responding to God’s love and mercy.” |

The Leader’s Journey: Answering the Call to Personal and Congregational Transformation $24.95 “Many books describe elements of church leadership– what it is and how to do it– but very few focus on the process of personal transformation that is central to being able to lead well. The Leader’s Journey provides a blueprint and the practical tools needed to transform the lives of pastors and congregational lay leaders so that they can become truly effective leaders. Blending the best of sound psychological research, solid Biblical principles, and proven congregational experiences– authors Jim Herrington, Robert Creech, and Trisha Taylor offer step-by-step guidance for engaging in the personal transformation journey as part of effective congregational leadership.” |

Elders In Congregational Life $14.99 “A biblically functioning church requires intentional devotion to the New Testament model of the church. In this practical book, Phil Newton gives a definitive and biblical study of elder based-leadership.” |
|
|
Learning to Be Last: Leadership for Congregational Transformation $14.99 “How do you define success in Christian leadership? Most of us look to the example of Christ to answer this question; but when we really stop and examine our motives and actions, how many of us really understand and emulate Christ’s words in Luke 22:7: ‘I am among you as one who serves.’ Learning to Be Last explores the challenging call for Christian leaders to willingly move to the back of the line and lead from last place. Instead of offering specific steps and techniques, it presents a vision for true servant leadership and outlines essential principles to guide and drive leaders as they work with others. With insight and challenge, Fairbanks and Toler examine the three cornerstones of Christian leadership: a vision for identity, a passion for vocation, and an obsession for the faith community. They explore the motifs of servant leadership–motivation, lifestyle, purpose, method, pain, and evidence–and challenge readers to wholeheartedly embrace the characteristics that result from these convictions.” |

Congregational Worship $18.98 Purchase of this book includes free trial access to www.million-books.com where you can read more than a million books for free. This is an OCR edition with typos. Excerpt from book: CHAPTER III. CONGREGATIONAL SINGING. " Be filled with the Spirit; speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord." ? Eph. v. 18, 19. THE worship of song has generally been the measure and expression of the spirituality of the Church. We are not surprised, therefore, to find in the text the exhortation to sing, based on the prerequisite condition of being filled with the Spirit. For just in proportion as the indwelling life and power of the Holy Ghost is manifested in the believer and in the Church will there be the impulse and the inclination and the power to sing. Hence we are not unprepared to find that all the great reformations in the history of the Church have been marked by signal revivals of Christian song. It was so in the time of Luther. Those who 58 with him had burst the shackles of Papal superstition found that they could not utter their newly kindled zeal and enthusiasm in the frigid forms of the old Church. And so out of the very strife and conflict of the Reformation came forth new hymns, ? hymns, too, which for sublimity of expression and lyrical rhapsody of feeling have rarely been surpassed in any age. It is a notable fact, that, during the Reformation under Calvin, singing became so general a characteristic of its services that it was a synonym for Protestant heresy. And, in England, Wyc- liffe’s followers were named " Lollards," as is supposed from a word signifying to sing or chant, in contempt of their characteristic habit of psalm-singing. A marked feature of the great Methodist movement under Whitefield and the Wesleys, was the fresh and spontaneous outburst of song. The old Moravian hymns, with their incomparable blending of love and melody, were sung anew by lips that had bee… |

Who Rules the Church?: Examining Congregational Leadership and Church Government $19.99 “In “Who Rules the Church? author Gerald Cowen offers critical definitions about what the work of a pastor or elder is–what is his job description and what are the limits of his authority. This book will make the case that the New Testament model for congregational government is the Pastoral Leadership-Congregational rule. In other words, authority is given by the Lord to the congregation itself, but the pastor is God-called to that congregation not only to serve and take care of the congregation but to be the leader.” |
