Galatians: A Mentor Commentary $29.99 “Galatians was probably the first letter ever written by the apostle Paul. The concern with which he deals the relationship with which he deals the relationship of Christian believers to the Mosaic law was a major problem in the apostolic church and remains so today. As then, the issue affects our understanding of the doctrines of justification (becoming right with God) and sanctification (developing a holy life). A misunderstanding and a wrong application of the relationship can result in several pastoral concerns such as the nature of assurance (basis of salvation) and the unity of the church (what is required for membership). David McWilliams brings us to an awareness of Paul’s teaching on these doctrines that will help us understand and refute errors of new perspective on Paul. Practically you can see how to avoid the pitfalls of legalism (on one side and license on the other). By learning more about Galatians you will discover the role of the Holy Spirit in a Christian’s life. Mentor commentaries combine a high view of scripture with access to the latest academic theological research. This unique combination allows the reader to see what recent scholarly research has discovered without losing sight of the innerancy of scripture.” |

Jesus, My Mentor: A Spirituality for Living $12.99 “Jesus, My Mentor is about the spirituality of Jesus, how Jesus lived with God as described in the gospels, and how Jesus’ way of relating to God and the world can be a positive and satisfying spirituality for us today. With Jesus as mentor and guide, Kater takes readers on a modern pilgrimage to understand the good news as Jesus knew it. He explores the stories, parables, and prayers of the gospel in the context of their time and their message for us today. He seeks to dispel some popular misconceptions about the Christian understanding of God and the world and shows us that Jesus’ understanding is both easily visible and an attractive alternative. Focusing on how Jesus approached God and shared his understanding with others, Kater emphasizes Jesus’ passion for life and the importance of hope and commitment for living fully. Jesus, My Mentor helps us to claim Jesus’ spirituality as our own and to make it our guide for living.” |

Boys to Manhood Mentor Program $14.99 “In his book Dr. King has brought back some important relationship concepts that our society at present has ignored and is not willing to discuss. The concept that mentors not only help our youth grow, mentors are an important conduit for the passing of society’s morals into the next generation. Dr. King also brings focus back to the mentors who grow as persons from the act of mentoring, and that mentoring is the cornerstone to a harmonious society.Anthony R. Williams, MBA, Criminal JusticeJust as seedlings obtain nourishment, strength, protection and thrive under the shade of the mighty oak; the gentle cub learns skills of survival under the vigilance of the mighty lion, our children inherit habits, build character, and are carved into upstanding citizens by studying man around them. Being a mentor has two requirements; at one time being a dedicated prot g and now the drive to be a respected mentor. Dr King epitomizes both these pre-requisites and reflects a new type of mentoring; by sharing his story. His book is a wonderful and refreshing take of a journey from prot g to mentor, and then to legend. Afzal Beemath, MD, Physician-Internal Medicine, Wayne State University; Eagle Team Medical Director Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care; Director Palliative Medicine Sinai Grace Hospital Dr. King transcends those who merely speak of helping our children. He is mentoring, teaching, and sharing with our youth by implementing educational and spiritual techniques for the current and future betterment of all. A must read for mentors and students. Mentor Like Jesus $16.99 “More time, spent with fewer people, equals greater kingdom impact.Desiring to see God widely embraced as more than a remote concept, entrepreneur Regi Campbell began a deeply successful mentoring program years ago that has become one of his greatest joys. Though it seemed radical at first–spending more time with less people to further an all important message–he soon realized this is the discipleship model Jesus set out during his ministry; today two billion people worldwide embrace the wisdom He entrusted to a small band of disciples two thousand years ago.”Mentor Like Jesus “is Campbell’s revelation of what he now calls “next generation mentoring,” an exponentially rewarding process that is resulting in “lives changed, marriages saved, children dealt with in a more loving way.” Readers of any age and in any situation will clearly understand how the return on a meaningful investment in another person is truly immeasurable.” |

Leviticus: A Mentor Commentary $29.99 “Leviticus received its English title from the Greek Levitikon, which means pertaining to the Levites. Probably, Jewish scribes who called Leviticus the Priests Manual influenced the title in the Tannaitic Period (200 B.C. 200 A.D.). While the title is appropriate for certain sections it fails to point out that most of the book is directed to all of the people of Israel. The priesthood of Israel was not meant to be a secret society with mysterious practices known only to them.Sadly, it appears, the Book of Leviticus has been retired to a secondary status in the Church today. Christians have largely relegated the punctilious details about such things as sacrifices and purity laws to a bygone era. There is, of course, some good reason for that. While rabbinic commentary teaches that this is the first book of Scripture that children should learn (aged 5), modern readers often view Leviticus as tedious and dull. Reading Leviticus was in the words of a third century church scholar, like having to eat unfit food. The practices in Leviticus may seem distant and mysterious to the modern western world yet there are fundamental elements in the Book of Leviticus that are both universal and relevant to the contemporary scene. What Christian would say that love your neighbor as yourself, the second greatest commandment, should be relegated to the past? Here, one of the most oft cited verses in the New Testament is a command that appears first in the Book of Leviticus. But it doesnt stop there. Hebrews particularly expounds on Leviticus; it is close to impossible to comprehend parts of Hebrews without reference to Leviticus. This can be said with regard to passages in the Gospels as well.” |

Augustine as Mentor: A Model for Preparing Spiritual Leaders $17.99 “Lauded for his thoughts, Augustine of Hippo (354-430) has influenced virtually every philosopher of the last fifteen hundred years. But his personal character and ministry are even more remarkable, for in a time when most monastery dwellers sought solitude, Augustine was always in the company of friends, visiting disciples and writing mentoring letters to those he knew. >”Augustine as Mentor “is written for modern day pastors and spiritual leaders who want to mentor and equip other evangelical Christians based on proven principles in matters of the heart like integrity, humility, faithfulness, personal holiness, spiritual hunger, and service to others. >Author Ed Smither explains, “Augustine has something to offer modern ministers pursuing authenticity and longing to ‘preach what they practice.’ Through his thought, practice, success, and even failures, my hope is that today’s mentors will find hope, inspiration, and practical suggestions for how to mentor an emerging generation of spiritual leaders.”" |

The Spiritual Mentor: Unlocking the Treasures of the Next Generation $14.99 “God — as our eternal Abba Father — seeks to impart a fatherly anointing to bless future generations. But that fathering spirit is sorely lacking in the modern-day Church. Many leaders are ill equipped for the task due to a void left by natural and spiritual forefathers. In The Spiritual Mentor, author Ron DePriest challenges church leaders to adopt the attitude of Old Testament patriarch Abraham and protect the destinies of younger men. Only a revelation of love directly from the Father himself can allow anyone to extend the heart-of-a-father in either parenting or discipleship.” |

C. S. Lewis: Writer, Dreamer, and Mentor $26 “From early childhood, C. S. Lewis engaged the world around him primarily through the medium of books. He read voraciously, and his own writing covers a broad range of genres. This new study by Lionel Adey is unique in its attempt to trace the development of C. S. Lewis as a maker and reader of books. Adey shows how the two sides of Lewis’s personality, the “Dreamer” and the “Mentor,” affected his writing in its various modes: literary history and criticism, fiction for adults and for children, poetry, essays and addresses, and letters. Adey also discusses the formative biographical events in Lewis’s life and offers an estimate of Lewis’s achievement and legacy as a writer.” |

Pope John XXIII: Model and Mentor for Leaders $22.95 “Lots of management manuals drawn on the examples of various managers, and lots of monographs profile individual leaders, but such books rarely provide both a practical manual one can use while profiling a model one can follow. This volume is unique in that it does both. In the process John XXIII becomes a spiritual as well as a down-to-earth guide for managers from pastors to presidents. This book reviews the words and works of Angelo Roncalli during the period when he faced the greatest challenge of his life when, at age seventy-seven he assumed the daunting task of leading the Roman Catholic Church into a whole new way of relating to itself and the world at large.>Setting a tone, establishing a purpose, outlining a program, having a strategy, selecting a team, keeping on message, using the media, rationing the time available and deliberately pursuing the goals established are just a few of the many managerial skills studied here that set “good Pope John XXIII” apart from others and made him such a consummate model, mentor and patron saint for managers.” |

America and Zion $31.81 Moshe Davis was a preeminent scholar of contemporary Jewish history and the rounding head of the Institute of Contemporary Jewry at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. A recognized leader in the field of bicultural American/Jewish studies, he was a mentor to educators and academics in both Israel and North America and an active colleague of American Christian scholars involved in interfaith study and dialogue. These wide-ranging essays, many of them presented at a colloquium that Professor Davis had planned but did not live to attend, honor him by exploring the theme of Zion as an integral part of American spiritual history and as a site of interfaith discourse. Not only do these essays stress the role of individuals in history, but they also incorporate views outside those of mainstream religions.American attitudes toward the land of the Bible reflect both Jewish values that arose from their abiding attachment to Zion and the uniquely American Christian vision of a utopian pre-industrial, pre-urban, pre-secularized world. Whereas American Christians expected to be lifted out of their ordinary lives when they visited the Holy Land, Jews saw in their affinity for Zion a strong link to their American environment. Jews viewed America’s biblical heritage as a source of practical values such as fair play and equality, social vision and political covenant. In inviting such comparisons, these essays illuminate the relationship of Judaism to America and the richness of American religious experience overall. |

Echoing Silence $9.64 When Thomas Merton entered a Trappist monastery in December 1941, he turned his back on secular life including a very promising literary career. He sent his journals, a novel-in-progess, and copies of all his poems to his mentor, Columbia professor Mark Van Doren, for safe keeping, fully expecting to write little, if anything, ever again. It was a relatively short-lived resolution, for Merton almost immediately found himself being assigned writing tasks by his Abbot one of which was the autobiographical essay that blossomed into his international best-seller The Seven Storey Mountain. That book made him famous overnight, and for a time he struggled with the notion that the vocation of the monk and the vocation of the writer were incompatible. Monasticism called for complete surrender to the absolute, whereas writing demanded a tactical withdrawal from experience in order to record it. He eventually came to accept his dual vocation as two sides of the same spiritual coin and used it as a source of creative tension the rest of his life. Merton s thoughts on writing have never been compiled into a single volume until now. Robert Inchausti has mined the vast Merton literature to discover what he had to say on a whole spectrum of literary topics, including writing as a spiritual calling, the role of the Christian writer in a secular society, the joys and mysteries of poetry, and evaluations of his own literary work. Also included are fascinating glimpses of his take on a range of other writers, including Henry David Thoreau, Flannery O Connor, Dylan Thomas, Albert Camus, James Joyce, and even Henry Miller, along with many others. |
