Biology Christian

Why do biblical literalists think it is un-Christian to teach evolution in biology class?
because thay take the bible as the literal truth, when it is not. even the late pope john paul II said that evolution is fine to teach. how do they compete with that?

On Behalf of God: A Christian Ethic for Biology $32 “”A comprehensive and useful discussion of Christian ethics applied to avariety of difficult and timely issues is no simple task, but Reichenbachand Anderson have risen to it. They have provided a book that is a great starting place for further consideration of topics such as the environment, assisted reproduction, abortion, surrogacy, the human genome, the pursuitof knowledge, the brain-mind issue, and human sexuality. Their treatmentof these issues is integrated by the adoption of a biblically based paradigmfrom Genesis: ‘filling, ‘ ‘ruling over, ‘ and ‘caring for.’ This is a bookpacked with information, suggestions, and challenges.”-Richard Bube, Stanford University”An important book for the Christian community. The authors have rescuedcreation from the polemical battlefield it has become for too many Christiansand have applied God’s creation ordinances to some of the pressing practicalissues of our time. Their approach is wide-ranging and novel, getting usaway from the tired debates about conservatives and liberals. On Behalf of God may provide the fresh look at ethics that is badly missing in entrenchedChristian circles. I believe we may look back ten years from now and see this book as a watershed for Christian witness in the real world.”-R.J. Berry, University College London” |

Biology Through the Eyes of Faith: Christian College Coalition Series $15.99 “Newly Revised>The Council of Christian Colleges and Universities Series> Stressing the biblical message of stewardship, biologist Richard T. Wright celebrates the study of God’s creation and examines the interaction of the life sciences with society in medicine, genetics, and the environment. The author brings a biblical perspective to theories on origins, contrasting creationism, intelligent design, and evolution. Highlighting the unique nature of biology and its interaction with Christian thought, Wright demonstrates that Christian stewardship can be the key to a sustainable future. > This comprehensive work, one of a series cosponsored by the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities, addresses the needs of the Christian student of biology to align science and faith. It demonstrates that the study of biology penetrates to the core of human existence and has much to contribute to the construction of a consistent Christian worldview.” |

Biology Student Text $54.5 “Biology For Christian Schools is a textbook for Bible-believing high-school students. Those who do not believe that the Bible is the inspired, inerrant Word of God will find many points in this book puzzling. This book was not written for them.Between true science (those things that can be accurately observed and measured) and the Bible there are no contradictions. After all, the One who inspired the Bible also created the things that scientists can observe. Men, however, can make mistakes in their observations, or they may reach faulty conclusions from what they observe. The challenge for the Christian biology student is not only to find information but also to consider the information in light of the Word of God. The task is not easy; it is, however, a task at which Christians need skill, not only in the sciences, but also in all areas of their lives.” |

Selfish Genes and Christian Ethics: Theological and Ethical Reflections of Evolutionary Biology $32.99 “The evolutionary origins of human beings, and in particular the origins of human morality, have always attracted debate and speculation, not just in the academic community but in popular science and the wider general population as well. The arguments and explanations put forward over the years seem to thoroughly catch the popular imagination, but there is the danger that these explanations tend to step outside the bounds of scientific theory and become powerful popular myths instead. In Selfish Genes and Christian Ethics, the author is challenging this tendency. Instead he provides a Christian theological anthropology, which, among other things, aims to give Christians and the churches the confidence to engage with assumptions that evolutionary theory and religious beliefs are untenable.” |

Suitable for junior high and high school” |

A Fine-Tuned Universe $40 Are there viable pathways from nature to God? Natural theology is making a comeback, stimulated as much by scientific advance as by theological and philosophical reflection. There is a growing realization that the sciences raise questions that transcend their capacity to answer them–above all, the question of the existence of God. So how can Christian theology relate to these new developments? In this landmark work, based on his 2009 Gifford lectures, Alister McGrath examines the apparent fine-tuning of the universe and its significance for natural theology. Exploring a wide range of physical and biological phenomena and drawing on the latest research in biochemistry and evolutionary biology, McGrath outlines our new understanding of the natural world and discusses its implications for traditional debates about the existence of God. |

Christology and Science $30 F. LeRon Shults here breaks new ground by explicitly bringing specific themes of Christology – Incarnation, Atonement, and Parousia – into dialogue with contemporary science – evolutionary biology, cultural anthropology, and physical cosmology. Shults skillfully summarizes some of the popular constructive responses to these developments, offering a unique organization around three concrete case studies. After clarifying the way in which Christian understandings of God and of humanity shape the task of reforming Christology, each chapter concludes with a programmatic outline of ways in which we might articulate the identity, agency, and presence of Jesus Christ in dialogue with late modern science and culture. |
